Day 38 - 39 VidSummit
So you wanna be a YouTuber huh?
Is it ironic that I was up to posting about VidSummit with these Substack pieces, but have been busy making youtube videos? Anyway where were we…
An event i’ve had my eye on for years and so grateful I could make it work with this trip. We actually worked on our USA itinerary backwards so we could make it to this! VidSummit - The Youtube Creator Summit.
It is an annual event and this is the 12th year running. Previously it had been held in LA but the past few years it has been in Dallas TX. I presume to make it more accessible for those in the Eastern States.
You could spend the entire time roaming the hallways networking with people, talking to the vendors and not even go to any of the presentations which is exactly what some people were doing.
Considering this was my first time attending, my approach was go to as many presentations as possible with a side of networking. I really enjoyed these. Each talk went for about 45 minutes. I tried to choose a variety and I really got a lot out of them. Some talks were from YouTubers themselves, but I also went to one hosted by a lawyer, a graphic designer and a panel of producers.
There was an app for the event, so you could contact other attendees. An Australian guy who lives in the US had put all the 10 or so other Aussies together in a group to meet for dinner after the day. To my surprise we were actually the only other ones that showed up to the dinner. Maybe everyone else was busy riding their illegally imported kangaroos?
Overall it was a really well organised event and super awesome to regain clarity and direction. It felt like you were apart of something bigger! I’d love to attend future years if I can!
